Provide leadership and develop space programs, space plans, budgets/conceptual estimates, schedules, site requirements, guidance on project designs, and presentation materials. Ability to assess and understand project goals and constraints; including client values, needs and objectives, is essential.

  • Obtain understanding of overall project goals and constraints, including client values, needs and objectives, construction and design budget limitations and schedule requirements.
  • Evaluate existing program information and/or develop initial programming information. Possesses ability and expertise to program and plan facilities and collaborates with user groups, departments, and the university administration as required. Prepare functional and space programs.
  • Evaluate existing facilities for functional efficiency and space requirements, equipment and technology requirements and preparation of code analysis. Evaluate and implement code and other governing agency requirements for university facilities.
  • Assists in site selections, evaluations and/or feasibility studies.
  • Prepare design and floor plan concepts. Also prepares design presentation materials and serves as lead in presentations to users.
  • Consult with project managers, architects and other designers in the preparation of design and construction documents, including materials selections and interiors. Able to prepare projects design and other documentations (for limited scope projects) when necessary.
  • Monitors quality of architectural drawings and documents, maintaining timely delegation, coaching and communication as appropriate with team leaders who are responsible for work flow/timelines.
  • Monitors facility renovation/construction projects for consistency with space guidelines and design standards.
  • Advises and assists academic, administrative and other units in their long-range space planning and in the preparation of their capital requests. Ensure that space planning uses a “best practice” approach.
  • Prepares appropriate conceptual estimates for identified projects.  This would include all construction elements, as well as associated FFE and soft cost requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree of Architecture, Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design related field 
 

The following experience is required:
 

  • Three to four years’ experience in architecture or interior design, with experience in space planning and programming and conceptual cost estimating.


 

Salary

Full-time, Administrative staff position available.  Administrative Grade Level 357.  Salary is commensurate with educaton and experience.  Full benefit package available.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Computer literacy, excellent communication skills, experience in spreadsheet skills, knowledge of 3D computer modeling and graphics, demonstrated success in executing planning and design projects, experience with governing/regulatory agencies, and familiar with current treads in higher education planning and design. Higher education experience a significant plus.
