Assistant Professor in the Digital Arts division of the School of Art at Bowling Green State University – a community of artists and scholars dedicated to fostering discourse, action, collaboration and creativity. Students and faculty members study and produce art within an interdisciplinary perspective that is historically and culturally informed and responsive to contemporary social, environmental and ethical issues. We invite applications from individuals dedicated to creative production, collaborative team building, respect for diverse points of view and an ability to create an academic environment based on inclusivity. The successful candidate will possess a professional record in teaching, research and service commensurate with disciplinary leadership.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in digital 2D animation, 3D animation, 3D modeling, and possibly other related fields such as virtual reality, gaming, and animation pre-production. This includes narrative and non-narrative artistic approaches to animation, cinematics, and animation post-production (compositing and special FX). 
Conduct ongoing professional studio practice and/or scholarly activity and maintain a strong exhibition or festival record.
Participate in departmental service including curriculum development, recruiting, jurying, outreach, and lab-related activities in the Digital Arts Division.

 

Minimum Qualifications
- MFA or terminal degree in Digital Arts, Animation, Media Arts, or a similar field (e.g., Art and Technology, Interactive Arts, Kinetic Arts, Sequential Arts, Cinematic Arts). 
- At least one year of college-level teaching experience (including being a TA) in art or related areas (e.g., Design, Technology, Media Production, Computer Science). 
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of 2D and 3D animation as exemplified by Sample Portfolio.
- Demonstrated experience with 3D modeling and animation software such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe CC, Pixologic ZBrush, and other Autodesk products as exemplified by Sample Portfolio.

Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years of college-level teaching experience as the Instructor of Record in Digital Arts or Animation. 
- At least two years of experience working on creative production in the animation or gaming industry.
- Expertise with 3D and 2D animation and also in one or more of the following areas: 3D modeling, visual FX, stop-motion, motion graphics, concept / visual development, storyboarding, compositing, game design, video, interactive art, programming, physical computing or installation art as exemplified by Sample Portfolio. 
- Experience teaching and advising graduate students.
- Research, exhibition, production or professional involvement record (online or in-person conference presentations, publications, festival exhibition, client-based work, gallery exhibitions, or within emerging fields such as community activism and social media publications) at the national level.

Information about the Digital Arts Division, which offers BFA, BA and MFA degrees in four tracks:
 • Digital Animation & Video - 2D and 3D animation with a strong emphasis on 3D character animation as well as video art, motion graphics, special effects and compositing.
Imaging - still images informed by painting, collage and photography with a strong emphasis on expressive works and experimental printing technologies.
Interactive Art - with an emphasis on creative art and game development, using code as art (HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Processing) for mobile devices as well as installation art. 
Emerging Media – including virtual environments, interactive and video installation, physical computing, gaming / virtual environments, augmented reality, and public art.
  
Information about the School of Art and the University
The School of Art (NASAD-accredited) consists of the Divisions of Art Education, Art History, Digital Arts, Graphic Design, and Studio Arts. The School has a current enrollment of 520 undergraduate majors and 32 full and part time graduate students, taught by 34 full-time faculty members. The School offers BFA degrees in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Digital Arts and Art Education, and BA degrees in Art and Art History. Graduate degrees include an MFA (with specializations in Two-Dimensional Studies, Three-Dimensional Studies and Digital Arts), an MA in Art History and an online MA in Art Education. In addition, this coming fall the School will begin accepting students into a newly established online MDes program.
