Coordinator for Leadership & Administration

The Coordinator for Leadership and Administration is responsible for overseeing all leadership development initiatives for BGSU’s on-campus housing program, including the advising of the Resident Student Association and National Residence Hall Honorary.  This Coordinator has administrative responsibilities for the front desk operations throughout the campus, setting policies and procedures to best manage their business operations and safety/security processes.  This position will also assist in the coordination of summer conferences.

Leadership & Service Learning:

  1. Develops, coordinates, plans and implements all leadership programs, curricula, and initiatives for the on-campus student population.
  2. Advises the Resident Student Association (RSA) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) student organization. 
  3. Provides training and resources to staff to advise individual Residence Hall Councils. 
  4. Serves as the primary liaison to the Center for Leadership and collaborates appropriately on campus-wide initiatives.
  5. Oversees budget development and spending for RSA, NRHH, and individual hall councils.
  6. Serves as the liaison with the Center for Community & Civic Engagement and Office of Campus Activities regarding leadership and community service programs. 
  7. Represents Residence Life on University-wide committees such as Homecoming, and advises several signature programs annual events including the St. Baldrick’s philanthropic fundraiser.

Administrative Programs:

  1. Coordinates and oversees all front desk operations for the residence hall system including inventory management through a software management system.
  2. Meets regularly with in-hall student administrative staff to discuss desk operations, customer service, and training; provides feedback to the hall director regarding staff performance
  3. Works with the campus post office to insure proper and timely mail delivery services.
  4. Develops ongoing training for front desk staff.
  5. Coordinates a centralized hiring process for front desk staff.
  6. Collaborates with conference services staff and Residence Life operations to insure that summer operations are seamless as staff members move in/out
  7. Plans and coordinates the End of the Year Residence Education Student Staff Banquet.
  8. Develops processes for office wide administrative functions (check-in, key control, inventory, etc), including the use of a centralized software management system.
  9. Coordinates the Office of Residence Life’s Duty processes (e.g. Residence Hall, Greek Chapter Houses, , Hall Director and “Senior Staff On-Call”) procedures and systems year around.
  10. Provides coordination for Break period (Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring, etc.) housing for staff and residents.
  11. Oversees the annual updating of staff manuals and forms.
  12. Manage outdoor space requests submitted to the Office of Residence Life.
  13. Oversee and supervise the Student Staff Quality Monitor program.
  14. Manage the processes for the Office of Residence Life scholarship programs
  15. Serve as a liaison to Student Employment and assist in ensuring that the Office of Residence Life employment practices remain up-to-date with policies and procedures.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with the coordination of summer conference as appropriate
  2. Serves as a team member and liaison with Assistant Directors, Coordinators, and others within Residence Life and the larger university community.
  3. Assists with student recruitment and retention.
  4. Participates in local, state, regional, and national conferences and other professional development opportunities.
  5. Serves on Division of Student Affairs committees as appropriate
  6. Serves as a judicial hearing officer for the campus conduct process, as needed
  7. Serves as a member of the "Senior Staff On-call Rotation”

Staff Supervision & Evaluation:

  1. Directly supervises one graduate assistant for leadership.
  2. Provides feedback and evaluative comments to the hall directors regarding expectations for academic programs and assessment initiatives.
  3. Supervise 10 Student Staff Quality Monitors September through May.
  4. Supervise Hall Directors, Graduate Summer Housing Operations Coordinators, and Conference Assistants for conference operations May through August.

Completes Other Duties as Assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree required.  Degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The following experience is required:

  • 2  years of graduate or professional level supervision
  • 1 or more years of experience working in a housing or residence life operation
  • 1 or more years of crisis management and or experience as part of an on call-duty rotation
  • 2 years advising hall council and or leadership programs




Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Pay Grade 354. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Knowledge of college student development theory.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating workshops, and in leadership and service learning.
  • Knowledge of residence hall operations and front desk operations.
  • Experience with undergraduate staff supervision.
  • Experience planning, developing, managing and reconciling budgets.
  • Prior work with crisis management and student conduct.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication and administrative skills and a demonstrated desire to work with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Experience with recruitment, training, and selection of staff.
  • Experience with student organization advising.
  • Knowledge of academic, leadership, or diversity programming, theory, and trends.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Basic computer skills, budget management skills, and creative problem solving.
