Director of Information Security - REMOTE
Computer and Information Technology

The Director of Information Security protects all the University community’s digital data and information assets, application, and systems.  The Director works directly the CIO to develop, monitor, and administer security policies and best practices for all University computer systems, networks, and facilities.


The Director of Information Security specializes in application, systems and network security devices and solutions.  Including the responsibility for the administration and maintenance of all university firewall's, intrusion protection/detection systems, single sign-on, access control, and the SSL VPN solution.


This position actively participates in the creation as well as managing the team that design, construct and implement security policies, practices and solutions for new applications or business processes as they are introduced across campus.


The Director also leads the PCI (credit card) compliance efforts for all information technology systems on campus that store, process or transmit credit card data.


This position manages the operations of the only Digital Forensic lab in NW Ohio with the latest technologies, individuals, vendors, and law-enforcement agencies in the detection, investigation, and prevention of digital abuse for BGSU.


This position will be a remote position open to Full-Time US Residents authorized to work within the US.  The position is required to work primary during US EST business hours.

  • Approve and assign projects and tasks to Information Security Analysts that designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information technology resources.
  • Supervise, train and assess the performance of the staff responsible for the firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other systems that are designed to protect the network from unauthorized access and alteration.
  • Manage the equipment, licenses and services including budget projections for all hardware and software used by the information security office.
  • Develop strategic plans and procedures for effectively managing the information security operations
  • Project manager for university wide impact information security-based projects.
  • Lead technical analysis on investigations, assessments, and compliance-based initiatives.  Conduct regular security assessments on announced vulnerabilities to determine their level of impact on the university resources then develop plan to address the issue. Work directly with General Council and Law Enforcement agencies where needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or related field.  Degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The following experience is required:

3 years IT systems or network experience

5 years IT security experience

1-year staff management experience


Preferred Certifications:

Security certification such as

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Global Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor/Manager (CISA/CISM)


Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level I59. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available
