Executive Director for Career Design and Connections
Career Counseling and Placement
BGSU Main Campus

Reporting to the President, the Founding Executive Director for the Hub for Career Design and Connections (HUB) brings together career services, internship and co-op support, student employment, pre-professional programming, and non-credit professional development programming to establish connections and interaction among students, alumni, employers, and organizations to generate opportunities that help students pursue their academic, career and post-graduation objectives.

  • Responsible for increasing BGSU's first destination career placement rates, outcomes and salary rankings, and graduate and professional school placement rates as reported nationally; this will require high-level strategy alignment with vice presidents and deans
  • Manage and oversee the Career Center, responsible for career fairs, resume and cover letter development, and technology tools and platforms for student to utilize for employment opportunities; Develop and build a Career Design plan and framework that allows students to align their academic and co-curricular experiences to reach their career goals
  • Manage and oversee Student Employment Services, which provides oversight of the student employment functions, which consists of both work-study and non-work study student positions and all graduate assistantships across both academic and operational units; Develop and implement strategies to ensure Student Employment Services supports students' on-campus employment in areas that align with a student's career interests
  • Manage and oversee Career, Professional Development and Connections, which consist of a team responsible for building upon BGSU partnership and alumni connections to develop opportunities for employment for BGSU students. Hire and develop content expert “Connectors” to guide students in their career goals to achieve the jobs they want while also interacting with employers
  • Develop a portfolio of relationships and network of opportunities with local, regional, national, and international employer appropriate for graduates of BGSU
  • Increase the HUB’s visibility and create strategies that increase inclusive participation by diverse populations and organizations to achieve individual and organizational success
  • Develop a strong partnership with the Center for College and Life Design (CCLD) to align with BGSU’s strategic plan, Forward; Develop strategies in collaboration with the executive director of CCLD to incorporate the HUB’s programming, activities and student engagement strategies into College and Life Design; Collaborate with the CCLD executive director and academic leaders to analyze labor market demographics and career and occupational trends, as appropriate, to ensure educational programs remain relevant for today's society
  • Leverage design thinking knowledge and strategies to institute appropriate tools and metrics to track student engagement, retention, and persistence for those students engaged in the Centers for College and Life Design and Career Design and Connections; Responsibility for increasing the university’s post-graduation success outcomes in terms of first destination careers and graduate and professional school placements and career readiness competencies
  • Collaborate with undergraduate and graduate admissions offices to support new student yield and facilitate matriculation to BGSU; collaborate with appropriate partners to support retention
  • Work with the Vice President of University Advancement to leverage the nearly 195,000 alumni to connect, engage and support BGSU students
  • Collaborate with college deans, other university administrators, faculty, and staff to provide strategies to improve career services for students in all majors and link these students to opportunities for employment and careers; Work collaboratively with the Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate and Professional Programs to increase graduate students' use of the HUB and increase employment rates
  • Launch a comprehensive professional development initiative and lead the HUB to offer innovative, non-credit-bearing certificates and professional development for students, alumni, and working professionals to leverage degrees, experience and training to optimize career opportunities




Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The following experience is required:

  • 5 years of leadership experience in higher education and/or corporate/external talent operations

The following experience is preferred:

  • 7 years of supervision experience
  • Experience with a framework and strategies involving career design, life design and innovation



Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Pay Grade 362. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefits package available.
