Bowling Green State University (BGSU) invites applications for two Reference and Instruction Librarians with faculty rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Both positions report to the Chair of the Department of Library Teaching and Learning (LTL) within the University Libraries (UL) and are full time, twelve-month renewable, non-tenure track, qualified rank faculty appointments.

We are looking for candidates with a passion for teaching who are comfortable in a collaborative environment and place users at the center of the academic library experience. Candidates will engage with students and faculty in a variety of subject areas and at a variety of academic levels. As a member of the LTL Department, the successful candidates will be involved in an array of activities, including but not limited to those listed below.

  • Provides communication and outreach to faculty, students, and staff as a member of one or more subject-based teams
  • Provides instruction in multiple formats and methods; proactively engages and collaborates with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts and learning objects into the curriculum
  • Collaborates within subject team(s) in building and maintaining collections
  • Offers reference services and individual consultations through various delivery methods; occasional evenings and weekends required 
  • Participates in service to the department (LTL) and the University Libraries
  • Contributes to departmental and UL strategic goals, including engaging in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution to be conferred by position start date
  • 3-6 months experience providing instruction and/or reference services in a library setting as a graduate student or in a professional capacity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of academic librarianship best practices as evidenced by experiences and/or philosophies in information literacy instruction, reference services, and/or collection development
  • Evidence of managing multiple priorities in individual and team settings
  • Evidence of involvement with diversity and equity work in community, organizational, or employment settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary range is $45,593 - $60,000.
