GENERAL INFORMATION
THE PROGRAM Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is concerned with the study of human development across the lifespan, the dynamics of family relationships, and the context of family and community. The study of lifespan human development embedded in the context of family prepares graduates to work with diverse individuals and families from birth to very old age. The curriculum embeds a strengths-based, trauma aware lens and has received academic program approval from the National Council on Family Relations for the Certified Family Life Educator credential. We emphasize inclusion and equity in curriculum, teaching, and service. In addition to the HDFS major, we offer minors in HDFS, Child Life, and Child Development.
THE SCHOOL Family and Consumer Sciences is a multidisciplinary school dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families. Primarily serving undergraduates, there are opportunities to teach graduate courses and serve on graduate committees. The School is in the process of reorganization to stay in-tune with student demand and trends.
THE COLLEGE The College of Education and Human Development is committed to developing a dynamic community of lifelong learners and leaders. Comprised of five schools and one department, the College is the administrative home to the School of Family and Consumer Sciences. THE UNIVERSITY BGSU is a public, state-assisted, residential university. It has approximately 21,000 students and a stable enrollment pattern. FACILITIES AND SERVICES Facilities in Family and Consumer Sciences include individual offices for faculty, technology, and active learning classrooms. The College houses a Technology Resource Center and specific support for grant-seeking and writing. The nine-story Jerome library offers open stacks, reading lounges, study carrels, seminar rooms, and many other features. BGSU has an Information Technology Services center with the latest and most complete computer system for students, faculty, and administration. A central advising office offers student support for the first two years.

Seeking Human Development and Family Studies Assistant Professor, School of Family and Consumer Sciences, Bowling Green State University. Tenure track faculty position beginning August 2023. Requires Ph.D. degree in Human Development, Family Science, or a related field. Degree must be conferred by the position start date of August 2023. Successful applicant should be competent in teaching undergraduate HDFS courses, including introductory and higher-level family science courses from a trauma-informed lens. Work includes undergraduate teaching; research and publication; and academic service, encompassing active participation in program activities and student academic advising.
