Position Title:  Tenure Track Faculty Assistant Professor – Robotics

Bowling Green State University is searching for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the discipline of Robotics Engineering with a start date of August 7, 2023. The individual will teach and develop undergraduate and graduate-level courses and conduct research in the applied computer software and hardware integration with applications to mechatronics and robotics systems. The desired fields for the candidate’s research program include, but are not limited to, (1) humanoid robots, (2) machine vision, (3) artificial Intelligence for robotics, (4) robot programming, and (5) smart manufacturing. The individual will help to continue to develop the curriculum to ABET accreditation standards.  Individuals with interests in the electronics for robotics and robotics in electronic manufacturing are encouraged to apply to the cross-appointment position (Link). 

The College of Technology is undergoing a major transformation by creating a School of Engineering to replace the current Department of Engineering Technologies (DET).  The School of Engineering will host our current B.S. in Systems Engineering (SYS) and M.S. in Logistic Systems Engineering (LSE), and is scheduled to launch three additional engineering programs in Fall 2023 – Electronics and Computer engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing engineering, and Robotics engineering. 

The curriculum is heavily focused on hands-on education and applied research and mandates co-operative education courses for all students. Current programs are focused on ABET-ETAC accredited engineering technology programs, three of which are being converted to engineering. Additionally, technology programs will also be offered under the School of Engineering.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, NASA Glenn Research Center, and Intel’s future semiconductor fabrication facility are all located approximately 2.5 hours from Bowling Green, OH.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate level courses in robotics 
- Conduct research that leads to high-quality peer-reviewed publications
- Conduct research that is supported by external funding
- Reach out, interact and partner with industry 
- Provide appropriate service to the department, college, university and the profession
- Engage in a leadership role for the program
Minimum Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, manufacturing engineering or very closely related discipline with evidence of experience from courses, work and/or research that is related to robotics is required. Individuals who expect to complete their Ph.D. before the start date of the contract (August 7, 2023) will be considered.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in relevant research areas
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of industry experience –or– at least 1 year of teaching and developing undergraduate/graduate courses at the university level  
- Evidence of external funding in relevant areas
