The Department of Computer Science invites applications for an Assistant Professor (full-time, tenure-track) in the area of Software Engineering, starting in August 2023.

- Teach a variety of courses, such as Software Engineering, Application Development, Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Advise undergraduate and supervise graduate students
- Actively seek and obtain external funding to sustain a research program that results in peer-reviewed journal articles or conference presentations 
- Provide service at the department, college, university, professional, and community level

 

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent in computer science or a closely related discipline (e.g., Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems). ABDs will be considered as long as the requirements for the degree are completed by time of employment in August 2023
- Demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness at the college level (e.g., positive feedback from students, peer, or supervisors on instructional activities such as guest lectures, teaching pedagogy, student mentoring, performance as a teaching assistant, etc.)
- Demonstrated record of research productivity, with at least one or more peer-reviewed journal articles or conference publications that have been accepted
- Established research background in a software engineering area, including but not limited to mining software repositories, software development & processes, requirements, or software testing, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, reports, or scientific presentations

Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the college level (course instructor, teaching assistant, guest lecturer, teaching practicum), particularly in the areas of software engineering, such as Software Architecture, Software Design, Software Testing, etc.
- Research grant experience (e.g., assisting grant proposal development, submitting federal or state grants) 
- Institutional, professional, or community-level service experience

The Department of Computer Science is one of 17 academic units in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department currently has 16 full-time faculty members with national and/or international reputations, about 320 undergraduate majors and 40 graduate students. Undergraduates pursue baccalaureate degrees in computer science and software engineering, graduate students pursue an MS in computer science. Computer Science is one of three foundational departments contributing to the MS and Ph.D. program in Data Science. 

The Department of Computer Science is one of the units served by BGSU ALLIES, a three-year project funded by NSF that is designed to increase the participation and advancement of women in academic STEM careers. Paralleling similar efforts at the student level, the department sponsors the BG Women in Computing student organization, which became a student chapter of ACM-W in 2018. The department has also recently been awarded a $1.14 million scholarship fund from the State of Ohio and the Department of Higher Education to recruit high-achieving, underrepresented students.
