Instructor, Graphic Design.  Full-time, renewable academic-year appointment. Start date: August 2019.

Teach 4/3 course load within the undergraduate introductory Graphic Design courses within a dynamic, progressive and responsive Graphic Design program that encourages independent and collaborative thinking, creative problem solving/analytics, creative writing, design for the public good, exploration of alternative visual communication methods, and a solid understanding of modern professional practices. May teach within the First Year Art Foundation Program or Digital Arts Division. Participate in educational and professional duties (mentoring, advising, program outreach) and activities within the Division and School of Art.

 

MFA, MDes or MGD in Graphic Design or similar terminal degree (e.g., Visual Communication Design, Experience Design, Interactive Design) required; 
College-level teaching experience (beyond TA) in established professional BA/BFA graphic design related programs; 
Professional experience as a graphic designer or ongoing professional practice; 
Demonstrated expertise in Motion/Time-Based Design and, in both print and digital environments, one or more of the following areas: Information/Visualization Design, New Media Design (Interaction/Experience Design, Information Architecture/UX, UI Design, et. al.), Typography, Design Theory/Criticism, or Social Design; 
Professional work that reveals proficiency with the Macintosh operating system, advanced proficiency with current Design Standard version of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe After Effects), and intermediate-to-advanced proficiency with web programming standards (HTML5.1/XHTML/CSS3) and software.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the practical and theoretical issues and methodologies surrounding graphic design (in both print and digital environments) and knowledge of the history of graphic design as revealed through statements of design and teaching philosophy or teaching materials; 
- An ongoing commitment to social responsibility and advocacy as they relate to design and related fields;
- Experience in curriculum development or teaching of online courses;
- Experience in collaborative or community engagement projects;
- Experience in digital communications, social media, marketing, advertising.

The School of Art (NASAD-accredited) consists of the Divisions of Art Education, Art History, Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Two-Dimensional Studies and Three-Dimensional Studies.
